More Than Baby Pictures

Find me on:

When most people hear the word “ultrasound,” they immediately think of grainy, black, and white images of a fetus in a pregnant womb.

While fetus imaging is an important facet, ultrasound imaging is much more than just one procedure. Ultrasound machines are able to develop images from sound waves reflected off the body’s soft tissues. This allows these machines to “look” inside the patient’s body – giving a provider the information they need to visualize the movement, measure organs, and masses, as well as to detect blood flow velocity and volume.

In fact, a patient’s initial diagnosis is changed in about half of cases, and confidence in the diagnosis increases in 90% of cases once ultrasound imaging is used.

Surprisingly, that diagnosis rarely happens in the doctor’s office. According to Daniel I. Levin and Nicholas J. Janiga’s 2020 Report on Diagnostic Imaging Centers and Radiology Practices - 40% of imaging volume is performed at outpatient imaging centers and physician’s clinics, while the other 60% is being performed within hospitals. Since many private practices refer patients to a hospital system or imaging center for diagnostic imaging - resulting in high procedure costs, an increase in travel times, and long wait times for patients.

However, many of these practices are now turning to New Frontier Mobile Diagnostics (NFMD) to integrate diagnostic imaging into their practice. New Frontier’s sonographers use high-quality GE ultrasound machines in doctor’s offices and clinics, which saves patients the cost, time, and health concerns around visiting a hospital or unfamiliar imaging facility. NFMD’s procedures are affordable and convenient for patients - while providing care teams with high-quality reports and consultation options.
